The Audacity of “Protection”: Trump’s Latest Offer for Women—Whether We Like It or Not

So, here we are, folks, with Donald Trump now vowing to “protect” women… whether we want him to or not! Yes, you heard that right. This is the same guy who’s been caught on tape bragging about grabbing women like he’s testing avocados at the grocery store. And now he’s galloping in on his high horse, ready to shield us ladies from… I don’t know, men like him?

Picture this: there’s Trump, on stage in Green Bay, Wisconsin, promising to “protect” women. And I’m over here thinking, “Protect? Buddy, the only thing I need protection from is YOU!” If you’re still wondering whether Trump understands what women actually want, well, look no further than this absolute gem. It’s like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. Or asking a Big Mac to guard your cholesterol.

And let’s be honest here, Trump’s “protection” has all the charm of a surprise colonoscopy. It’s insulting. It’s hypocritical. It’s a relic of a time when women were supposed to sit pretty in the parlor and let the men handle things, and guess what? Those days are over! Women don’t need a protector; we need equal pay, reproductive rights, and—news flash—a president who doesn’t make us feel like we need to wash our hands after shaking his.

Remember the Access Hollywood tape? Oh yeah, the one where he’s caught on a hot mic bragging about being able to “do anything” to women, including groping them without consent, because he’s a “star”? That’s right, this is the same guy who’s made a name for himself saying, “you can grab ’em by the—” well, we know the line. We’ve all heard the tape. We all know exactly what kind of “protector” we’re dealing with.

And, lest we forget, this “protector of women” has a little thing we like to call a track record. At least 26 women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct. TWENTY-SIX. He was even found liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll. And yet, here he is, self-appointing as the Great Protector of Women, like he’s just some benevolent guardian angel with a bright orange halo.

Oh, and did I mention Vice President Kamala Harris chimed in on his statement? She called it “very offensive to women,” which is D.C.-speak for “This guy has lost his mind.” It’s almost as if Trump thinks women are incapable of making decisions about their own lives and need Big Daddy Donald to swoop in with the final word. Seriously, the last thing women want is Trump’s unsolicited “protection.” If we wanted that, we’d still be in the Victorian era, holding parasols and smelling salts and fainting at the sight of a man’s bare ankle.

And here’s the kicker—when it comes to protecting women, we’re not talking about some minor slip-up or a misunderstanding. This is a guy who made a name for himself saying “you can grab ’em” and “do anything.” No, Mr. Trump, you can’t just do “anything.” Women don’t want “anything.” We want safety, respect, and equal rights, and newsflash: none of that comes from a man who seems to think we’re all helpless damsels needing rescue.

So, as we head toward the 2024 election, here’s hoping we can all remember: women don’t need “protecting.” We need a leader who respects us enough to stay out of our way, our choices, and, quite frankly, our business.
