Ron DeSantis vs. the First Amendment: A Masterclass in Missing the Damn Point

Alright, buckle up because I’m about to dive headfirst into the steaming pile of hypocrisy that Ron DeSantis just dropped all over free speech. The man—this glorified hallway monitor of a governor—has actually threatened TV stations with criminal charges. Why? For airing an ad! An ad about abortion rights! I know, shocking! Apparently, DeSantis thinks the First Amendment only applies when people are praising him and his dystopian wet dreams.

Let’s get this straight. DeSantis is throwing a tantrum over a commercial that tells the truth—a truth he doesn’t want people to hear. The ad shows a woman who needed an abortion and cancer treatment after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. You know, real-world stuff. But Ron? Nah, he’s too busy pulling his version of the “thought police” card, trying to slap TV stations with criminal charges because—hold your laughter—the ad might confuse women into thinking they can’t get medical care in Florida. NO KIDDING, RON! Your six-week abortion ban is so convoluted and cruel that people should be confused! You need two doctors to sign off on a life-saving abortion, like it’s a goddamn permission slip for a school field trip !

And don’t get me started on Florida’s Constitution, Article I, Section 4, which explicitly says: “No law shall be passed to restrain or abridge the liberty of speech or of the press.” But apparently, Ron DeSantis thinks the Constitution is more of a suggestion than an actual rulebook. He’s out here sending cease-and-desist letters to TV stations like some mafia boss: “Nice little TV station you got here, shame if someone… criminally prosecuted it.”

You know what’s hilarious? DeSantis’s logic is as backward as his policies. “Oh no, the ad is dangerous because it might lead women to seek care outside of Florida!” Well, maybe if you didn’t turn the entire state into The Handmaid’s Tale with palm trees, women wouldn’t need to escape your fascist hellhole to get basic medical care! But no—let’s bully TV stations and scare the living crap out of them because, God forbid, they broadcast anything that doesn’t align with his authoritarian regime !

And if this doesn’t scream “First Amendment violation” loud enough, let’s crank the volume up. This is what free speech is for, Ron! It’s for exposing bullshit like your policies to the light of day so people can see just how much of a control freak you really are. Instead, you’re out here doing your best impression of a dictator who woke up in the wrong country. “Oh, free speech? Nah, that’s just for the people who agree with me!” That’s not how this works, DeSantis. That’s not how ANY OF THIS WORKS!
