The Absolutely Absurd Hypocrisy of American Xenophobia

Alright, let’s talk about how insane this whole immigrant situation is, but let’s be real about it. The same people who are out here screaming the loudest about keeping immigrants out? Yeah, a lot of them are descendants of immigrants who got treated like absolute garbage when they showed up here.

Take the Irish, for example. Sean Hannity? You know he’s Irish, right? Yeah, Mr. Fox News himself. Back in the day, his great-great-grandparents probably got off the boat to signs that said, “No Irish Need Apply.” They were treated like trash, just for being Irish. And now, his crowd is all, “Oh, these immigrants are ruining the country!” It’s like, “Buddy, do you even realize the irony?!”

The Irish came over because they were starving, thanks to the potato famine. They were just trying to survive, and they get met with nothing but hostility. People didn’t trust them. Americans said, “They’re too Catholic,” or “They’re drunks.” Yeah, let me tell you, America’s never been too keen on being nice to people who have a different religion or a funny accent.

Now, let’s not forget the Italians. Rudy Giuliani, anyone? Yeah, he’s Italian-American. Do you know what his ancestors went through? Italians were called criminals, mobsters, they were looked down on as being dirty and untrustworthy. But you think Giuliani’s out here saying, “Hey, maybe we should be a little nicer to new immigrants”? No! Instead, he’s out there complaining about them like his own family history just never happened.

Then there’s the Germans. Tucker Carlson? You know he’s part German, right? His ancestors probably came here, built some breweries, made some bratwurst, and Americans were like, “What’s with these beer-loving weirdos?” They were suspicious of Germans for years, but now Carlson’s out here with his anti-immigrant rants, like his family didn’t face the same thing. The hypocrisy is unreal.

And don’t even get me started on the Eastern Europeans. You’ve got people like Stephen Miller, who’s of Jewish descent from Eastern Europe, whose family fled persecution and poverty. And now, he’s the guy drafting immigration policies designed to keep others out. It’s like he completely forgot what brought his own family here in the first place.

The thing is, it’s not like this xenophobia is new. Every wave of immigrants got treated horribly when they showed up. The Slovaks, the Russians—hell, anyone from Eastern Europe was just labeled “suspicious” by default. Yet now, you’ve got descendants of those same people looking at the next group coming in and saying, “Whoa, whoa, whoa, you’re not welcome here!” It’s like they developed selective amnesia. Your ancestors were those people!

So you’ve got people like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, sitting at barbecues, drinking beer (thanks, Germans), eating pizza (courtesy of the Italians), and talking about how these new immigrants are ruining the country. Really? The irony is so thick it could choke you. Their ancestors weren’t “ruining” anything—they were building this country, just like the new groups coming in are trying to do. But now, it’s like, “Oh, but we earned it, and you didn’t.”

The truth is, most of these folks’ ancestors were treated like absolute dirt when they first got here. But instead of seeing that and learning from it, they’ve just flipped the script. They went from being the underdog to the gatekeeper, and the hypocrisy is almost too much to handle.

So next time you see someone on TV trashing immigrants, just remember—it wasn’t that long ago that their great-grandparents were getting the same treatment.
